Edinburgh Pathway Editor

EPE is a visual editor designed for annotation, visualisation and presentation of wide variety of biological networks, including metabolic, genetic and signal transduction pathways. It is based on a metadata driven architecture, which makes it very flexible in drawing, storing, presenting and exporting information related to the network of interest. It allows visual representation to field standards (SBGN), storage and retrieval of annotation such as kinetic and other numerical data in relational databases (local and remote for enterprise development) and links graphical objects to external databases and web resources to show all available information on demand.

EPE2 EPE is currently being rewritten to allow new functionality to be added, and is available for download from the page. Development work on EPE1 has ceased. Some of the improvements of EPE2 will be :

  • Configurable editing behaviour
  • Support for the recently released Level1 SBGN Process Diagram notation.
  • A more robust and less error-prone graphical editor
  • A plugin mechanism for addition of new notations.
